چکیده

In the near future, fresh water will be very difficult to get and scarce. It is said that in 2025 half of the mankind will live in the areas where fresh water is not enough. Also, UN and WMO are predicting 5 billion people will be in short of even drinking water. Also, in the present, there are some areas where sea water or chloride contained sand are used as mixing water with or without intension. The authors believe that the possibilities of using sea water as mixing water in concrete should be investigated seriously. In this paper, the authors would like to show various possibilities of using sea water as mixing water in RC members. The possibilities are shown as follows; 1. Mixed with pozzolanic materials (Blast furnace slag powder, etc.) expecting to fix the free chloride ion. 2. Mixed with corrosion inhibitor. 3. Reinforced with stainless steel or corrosion resistant reinforcement. 4. Used in very dry or submerged conditions. 5. Others.

Estimating an appropriate plastic concrete mixing design for cutoff walls to control leakage under the earth dam.

Making use of concrete materials in cut-off walls, because of their low permeability and standing high Hydraulic Gradient caused by underground drainage, has attracted great amount of attention. Using ordinary concrete with high elasticity modulus, compared to other materials may accompany with problems including brittleness of cutoffs due to dynamic stresses. To solve this problem, adding a ce...

Corrosion of Concrete in Sea Water (RESEARCH NOTE)

Attack and disintegration of concrete structures under the influence of aggressive fluids, wet gases, etc. are understood as corrosion of concrete. The corrosion of concrete is a chemical, colloidchemical process, yet often a physico-chemical one, while that of reinforced concrete supported oil platforms are subjected to marine environment in the Persian Gulf and therefore corroded. In the pres...

Deterioration of Concrete in Ambient Marine Environment (RESEARCH NOTE)

Structural concrete exposed to marine environment deserves special attention as the diffused sea salts chemically react with harden cement matrix and forms various expansive/leachable compounds leading to loss of material, strength, cracking, spalling etc. This study cover the effect of sea water on the specimens cast from two grades of concrete exposed to simulated marine environment over a ye...

The Effect of Caspian Sea Water on Corrosion Resistance and Compressive Strength of Reinforced Concrete Containing Different SiO2 Pozzolan

Many parameters are influenced by the diffusion of chloride on concrete in marine environments and these can affect concrete quality. In this study, the effect of water to cement ratio of 0.35, 0.40 and 0.45 on corrosion resistance and compressive strength of reinforced concrete was evaluated. Moreover, different percentages of micro silica (SiO2) including 5, 7.5 and 10% were utilized, in orde...

The Utilization of Waste Water from a Concrete Plant in the Production of Cement Composites

This article presents the results of a study dealing with the utilization of sludge water from a concrete plant as a partial replacement for mixing water in the production of cement composites. The replacement of mixing water with sludge water from a concrete plant was carried out in the amounts of 20% and 50%. The following tests were carried out in order to determine the effect of the replace...
